A lack of knowledge about the proper use of protective equipment is a challenge in the construction industry, leading to many workplace injuries.

A collaboration between Betonmast, AF Gruppen, Haga & Berg Entreprenør AS, Stenseth & RS, Skydda Norge AS, and Unifractal AS, with support from the NHO IA Program, has lead to a solution to address this challenge.

Developed together with workers on construction projects

The project was carried out from April to October 2024 and resulted in a digital tool that makes it easier to select the right protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.

The goal was to reduce sick leave and workplace injuries by increasing knowledge about safe working methods and the proper use of personal protective equipment.

Through agile development and close collaboration with users on construction sites (including Parkgata 6 in Gjøvik and the Viking Age Museum in Oslo), we developed and tested a solution that now delivers tangible value to the industry.

A digital solution that makes HSE guidance more accessible

The application provides tailored recommendations based on specific needs and includes features like support for multiple languages. User feedback throughout the process ensured the solution became both practical and relevant to daily work on construction sites.

The platform developed through this project now offers extensive content suitable for small and large companies in the construction industry.

The library of topics will expand as new participants adopt the app and contribute with additional content for others to use.

Feedback from users has been positive, and new functionality has been added during the process. This has improved usability for workers on Norwegian construction and building sites.

User interface of the HSE App

A completed, scalable tool available to the entire industry

The collaboration with Betonmast and Skydda Norge AS has ensured verified and relevant HSE content. We have now established a digital competence library accessible to the entire construction industry.

Existing content can be shared with new users of the tool. An underlying principle is that students and apprentices can use this for free via the Betonmast HSE web app.

With this project, we have demonstrated how innovative technology and cross-sector collaboration can deliver concrete results and create safer construction sites.
